Phrasal verbs

go in for sthg = se specialiser en qqch; choisir qqch comme carriere.

He considered going in for law for a time, but he found that studying law required too much effort and energy.
Pendant un certain temps, il envisagea de se specialiser en droit, mais il constata que les etudes de droits demandaient trop d'efforts et d'energie.

go without sthg = se passer de qqch, devoir se priver de qqch
Warning! We went without any food; We went without it.
We went without any food all week, because he'd spent all the money on movie tickets.
On s'est passe/prive de nourriture toute la semaine, parce qu'il avait depense tout l'argent en place de cinema.

carry sthg out = realiser, mettre en oeuvre qqch
Warning! He carried out his plan; he carried it out. (transitive phrasal verb)

He has made every effort to carry out his plan to improve the working condition of his staff.
Il a fait tous les efforts possibles pour realiser/mettre en oeuvre son projet d'amelioration des conditions de travail de son personnel.

Just a little detail, translations aren't always the best way to know a language, because they function differently. But it's just my opinion, on whiwh you may or may not agree :)
